Wabi-sabi: The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". These bowls were about embracing the imperfections that the clay presented to me as I made them on the wheel. Then glazed in my rustic glazes of sand and sage. Speckled white sand beaches edged with sage.
The matte is definitely matte finish. I allowed all the character to shine through the mugs. Due to the style, no two are the same. These are very tactile mugs. When you hold them, you get many feels: natural raw clay; natural polished clay, matte glaze, and on the blue and green will slso experience the glossy finish.
*This mug holds at least 12 ounces. This batch is also a bit on the grey side instead of so very white.*
