The matte is definitely matte finish. I allowed all the character to shine through the bowls. Due to the style, no two are the same. Plus there are variances on the surface of each piece.
Although I do use the matte white glaze on this bowl, the brown speckled clay undertones creates a warm grey color to the bowl.
